magazine style ideas:

indie:

The main audience would be the 15-25 age gap, this is because as a genre indie has only become popular in recent times so there is a lot of teenagers into the genre and image. There is also a small amount of older people who like this genre but it is mainly the younger teen generation. It appeals to some teens because it is different to the generic music so they can have a different image to some of their peers. The people reading these magazines will be more interested in the underground and up and coming artists (e.g. Mac Demarco, Ratboy, etc.). They will also be interested in some clothing fashion type articles, fans of indie music tend to have a very distinct taste in fashion.

rock:

Rock music will have a very large age group of fans, probably around 16-40. It is such a big age gap because rock music has been around for so long, I stopped the age bracket at 40 because not many people will be buying magazines after this age. The younger generation will be into more modern bands such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers, whereas the older generation will be into more classic bands like the Rolling Stones, etc. fans of rock magazines won’t really care as much about lifestyle and gossip type stuff, they will be more into the instruments and the actual music itself.

rap/hip hop:

it will mainly be younger people interested in these types of magazines  so I have put the target age gap as 15-25. it is seen as a kind of 'criminal' type of music because of the lyrics involved so the fans may be of a more 'street' type background. the genre can sometimes be looked down on by other older genres. the younger fans will be into the more modern artists such as 'Tyler The Creator' and 'Kendrick Lamar'. the older fans will be more into older artists like 'Snoop Dogg' and 'NWA'.

my chosen genre is rock, I have chosen this because it is a genre that I am interested in and my target audience will identify with it.
